Electrical Enclosures

Electrical enclosures are weatherproof coverings designed to prevent electrical devices and systems from exposure to corrosive elements like moisture, light, dust, and more. They can be made from a variety of materials and can be aesthetically purposed for those seeking something indiscreet, or possibly a little more attractive to the eye.

Electrical enclosures are often categorized in terms of guidelines or standards set forth by the National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA). These define certain aspects and characteristics of different types of electrical enclosures that exist and are available.

The NEMA 4X

A kind of electrical enclosure, the NEMA 4X, prevents electrical systems from water/moisture specifically.

NEMA 4X electrical enclosures are impermeable to moisture, and are suitable for use in places like breweries, hospitals, car washes, near waterways, and spaces where moisture can accrue or liquids splash.

Keep in mind that when it comes to the NEMA 4 and other electrical enclosures, proper installation is key. When NEMA 4X electrical enclosures are installed in a faulty location  or in the wrong way, condensation and other factors can compromise its function.

LED Drivers

LED Drivers provide LED fixtures with the direct current and low voltage electricity they need, as opposed to what fluorescent bulbs run on, which is an alternating current/high voltage.

LED drivers are typically used for:

-Troffer lights

-LED panels

-Outdoor lighting/exterior

-Cove lighting/certain mounted lights

LED drivers are typically NOT used for:

-Traditional residential bulbs

In some cases, these devices may offer some protection from certain elements like dust and ‘solid objects.’ This is indicated by the external casing’s IP rating or ‘Ingress Protection.’

If you are looking to use more than one LED system in a single driver, consult a professional or the system’s datasheet/manual.
